Angeline Crossing, a Guildhall game applet

Angeline Crossing was the third game I worked on, after Seahaven Towers and Haniport Levee. Of the small number of folks who tried it, it was met with a positive response. It can generate number puzzles such as the sample shown below, where the clues are the sums of the digits in each column and row, and the possible digits 1-9 are not repeated in any column or row. I have not yet tuned the game for playability, both in terms of making the layouts more interesting as well as adjusting the level of difficulty, perhaps even affording the user a clue or two. But I do think I know how to code those features, so over time I'll attempt to add them, just to know what might have been. The story of Angeline will be told in the very final book of my Longwood series, should I ever get to it.

Next Steps

  • Complete the layout solving tool, which tool will determine if logic applied to the puzzle can determine a unique solution.
  • Adjust the puzzle generator to use fewer long sequences of digits, thereby reducing the puzzle difficulty. This might be a user option.
  • Adjust the puzzle generator to add bias to very large or very low sums, thereby reducing the puzzle difficulty. This might be a user option.
